Minute Taking Skills – Ready Made Course

minute taking Jill

When minute taking is effective, projects run to time and information is summarised accurately for knowledge sharing.

The trouble is, most minute takers are not trained in the skills of recording, active listening and speed writing. Most minute takers don’t see their role as a role equal to that of the Chair. Most have no idea about the short cuts to recording information and achieving accurate minute taking.

For many years we have delivered Minute Taking training to companies in the UK and Europe. Now, this popular course is available to you as a ready made course for you to use again and again. The course is complete with all your training notes, handouts and activities and a DVD with six professionally filmed scenarios so that your course attendees can practise the skills they are learning as they learn.

Minute Taking Scenario 1

The Poor Meeting (4 mins 4 secs)

This scene shows a meeting with the minute taker’s role reduced to that of a recorder. The scene is taken from experiences in real life and will provide the discussion points for what should happen.

Minute Taking Scenario 2

Chair and Minute Taker (4 mins 57 secs)

In this scene, an experienced Minute Taker works assertively with the Chair to prepare for an unexpected request for minute taking.

Minute Taking Scenario 3

Note Taking Practise (4 mins 51 secs)

This provides an opportunity to practise note taking and producing minutes in summary format. minute taking Jill2

Minute Taking Scenario 4

Note Taking Practise (4 mins 45 secs)

This provides a further opportunity to practise note taking and producing minutes in summary format.

Minute Taking Scenario 5

Mind Mapping Practise (5 mins 12 secs)

This provides an opportunity to practise note taking, this time using a technique to produce non linear notes.

Minute Taking Scenario 6

Part A – Agenda Setting; Part B – Note Taking Practise (9 mins 58 secs)

This provides attendees with the dual opportunity to draw up an agenda and then make notes and produce minutes.

The first scene is an oppositional meeting which ends in deadlock. The Minute Taker is asked to draw up the agenda for the second scene, during which a new character, the Chair, enters the scene. The Chair facilitates a successful discussion. The second scene provides further note taking practise and gives another opportunity to produce summary minutes.
