Management Behaviour Cards Support

This is the support page for people who have purchased the Management Behaviour Cards.

Additional activities will be provided as they are developed.

If you have developed an activity of your own which you would like including then please email the details to us using the contact email address supplied with your Management Behaviour Cards. We will acknowledge you as the source of the activity when we print it on our website.

Training Needs Analysis Activity

When looking to identify training needs for a manager or a group of managers with similar jobs, identify the 8 key behaviour areas you require the jobholder to exhibit using the following method:

  1. Outsort the cards with behaviours not relevant to the job.
  2.  Reduce the remaining cards by identifying essential and non-essential behaviours.
  3. The final pile of cards should number no more than eight.
  4. Use the behaviours on these cards to define the objectives to be demonstrated by those who attend the training.
  5. The objectives should be written in behavioural and measurable terms.
  6. Put in place the processes for measuring the changes in behaviour as a result of attending the training.

Problem Solving

I have to say that this is a really silly activity but it works!

You are faced with a management problem or difficult situation and you don’t know how to deal with it. You have tried everything.

  1. Choose 3 Management Behaviour Cards randomly.
  2. Look at each of the cards.
  3. At least one of the cards will provide you with a new suggestion, a new approach to the situation or a new solution to try.

Like I said. It’s silly, but it works.

Affirmations

You know how sometimes it’s hard for even the most optimistic amongst us to stay positive and motivated and energised. Well this activity is for just those situations. It is appropriate for managers to use with their staff and for staff to use with their managers (yes, even managers are human!).

  1. Think about the actions and behaviours of the person in question.
  2. Look through the cards and choose three which describe positive behaviours of this person.
  3. Now give one of those cards to that person.
  4. Give them a specific example of something they have done recently which supports the behaviour on the card.
  5. Stand back and watch them change.
  6. Now, allow yourself to feel good about what you have just done for a fellow human being.

Pre-Event Activity – 1

Give a set of the cards to each individual who will be attending the learning event and invite them to select the 6 cards they would like to focus on during the event. They should then feed back to you which cards and why they chose them so you can prepare specific inputs and activities to address those issues.

Pre-Event Activity – 2

Give a set of the cards to each individual who will be attending the learning event and invite them to select the 6 cards that match their definition of an ideal manager. They should then feed back to you which cards and why they chose them so you can prepare specific inputs and activities for those areas.

Coaching

Invite the client to sort the cards into 3 piles:

  1. Things they do well.
  2. Things they are “middle of the road” in.
  3. Things they need to work on.

Invite them to prioritise pile 3 into order of importance for them.

Run a GROW coaching session on the first card and then get them to action plan. Work on a different card in each coaching session.

Appraisal

Give out a pack to the appraiser and a pack to the appraisee. Ask them each to use the cards to give positive feedback to each other and to identify areas each could develop.
